JDM EF-8 front end fittment issues
REPOST FROM 6-13-2005
Does anyone know if I'm missing something on the front JDM conversion. I'm trying to rough fit everything for the body work. The fenders, headlights, sidemakers, and tie bar are on. However, the bumper doesn't fit??? I'm not using the USDM beam and I'm tryig to bolt it right to the chassis. When I put it on it lines up left and right but it's tilted downward like 1.5 inches. I can lift it up to make it fit but then there is a gap between the bumper bracket and the chassis.
Any ideas??

Well...I think I solved the issue. The USDM bumper bracket (on the chassis) is slightly different. I had to bust off the alligning stays on the JDM bumper support. Then I had to use the bottom hole on the support with the top hole on the chassis. So basically I raised the bumper by about 3/4 of an inch. This makes it fit perfect......I will post pictures soon.

The two issues with fitting the JDM front is the hood latch on the hood, and the bumper supports. The hood latch must be slotted back with a Dremmel toward the windshield of the car so that the lock can be slid back about 3/4".
Also with the bumper cover/bumper support: If you remove the bumper corner markers, you will see a black metal tab with holes. This is part of the JDM bumper suport (Remember you can no longer use the safer USDM bumper) Those holes must be slotted for perfect fittings. Then you can raise or lower the bumper cover in place. I do have photos if you need them.
Good luck!

REPOST FROM 6-16-2005
Yup....I got all of that. I obviously didn't try to use my USDM bumper beam I slotted the bumper bracket on the JDM bumper but it still didn't move it up enough. I had to use the bottom hole on the bumper with the top holes on the chassis (if that makes sense). Anyway that issue is all fixed. My big problem is the hood latch. I'm assuming everyone's car is slightly different because you refer to slotting the latch so it could move back towards the windshield. Well that doesn't work for me. I have to move it back about an inch!! So there's not enough latch to slot, I ran out of metal!! I also tried moving the female portion of the latch more forward on the radiator support (why do we call it that....it's a tie bar!!) That didn't work either. My solution is I have someone in Japan locating a EF6/EF7 tie bar, that's a bolt on affair.
My big question is with so many people doing this why do vendors STILL think all you need for this conversion is a EF8 tie bar You would think they would know by now that the bar is the same as ours except for the vent hole.
BTW...You may be hearing from me soon. My car is going to be a replica of your car. I'm painting the belt mouldings Rio red like the rest of the car, and leaving the bottom trim black. I even have the same ITR steering wheel, and SiR wing. It's funny I decided on this a while back and always wondered what it was going to look like, then the other day I came accross your Rex.....very slick. The only difference is I'm going to keep the carbon fiber hood exposed, or at least I'll try and see what it looks like. Also the engine is a little different
Thanks for the tips
-John

Yup...EF6/EF7 will fix all of our issues. Take a look at post #24 in the thread below (and also the pictures underneath that post)

It really doesn't have that much done to it. There are many cars around that have a lot more done to them
And not just talking about Jadkar's.
