My CRX keeps killing distributors?

I am now on my 4th dizzy. I have gone through 3 used/remanufactured ones in the past 4 years. I have been running a brand new one for the past 6 months(OBD0-D16). Something keeps killing the TDC and Crank angle sensors inside the dizzy. This new one only throws the #4 & #8 codes every once in a while but it did it twice today and it only started that the past 2 months.

The one common factor is that when they initially go/blow, I am hauling ass
(80-90mph) and on comes the CEL and my engine starts stumbling terribly. I turn off the ignition. Turn the car back on and no CEL...for a while. Then the CEL comes on sporatically. Then the dizzy eventually dies within 2-4 months.

This new dizzy is stock, no external coil. I am getting really tired of changing them out. Luckily they have all been under warranty.

Anyone have any idea why this keeps happening?

just for shits and giggles..

This was a factory harness right? Not a DPFI/MPFI swap? If thats the case, make sure you have it all pinned right. The car will run if pinned wrong, but I have seen distributors get MAD HOT internally due to a pinning issue. Doublecheck the pins, make sure all of your grounds are clean and tight, and make sure you have enough of them.

If you like, I'll try and find the specs for a good working condition factory unit, see if you can't ohm everything out and make sure parts are good or bad, and then we can track down issues from there.

Check all of that out and let me know first though.

Dave

I have 5 good ground points. The Honda place over here won't touch my car.
