Compression Woes

Out of boredom I did a compression test tonight.

Here's what I got

Cyl#1 - 210/210
Cyl#2 - 180/180
Cyl#3 - 200/200
Cyl#4 - 210/210

I wasn't too happy with the 180's so I poured a little oil in cylinder 2 to see how it changed and I got 205

Cylinder #1 went from 210 to 220.

Then I stopped. I didn't really care what I got for the other 2.

I'm kind of bummed, because I assume this means my rings are starting to go? I'm not really sure what to make of this because I don't consume any noticable oil and it only smokes when engaging VTEC. Even then, it's only a little puff, which is normal. Even the oil I poured down the cylinders didn't make the motor smoke, and i poured a cap full in.

Everything sounds healthy and it seems to run healthy. Is this just a small sign of bad things to come or are the numbers not as bad as I think they are?

Cheap.

They aren't too much, my friend picked one up at Harbor Freight a few months ago, maybe 15 bucks max, even then I think it was on sale for like 8 dollars or something.

There was a guide somewhere on how to make a compression tester. I was gonna find try and find it and build one by christmas time, but lost motivation since Loon won't be back, so no work will be done on the talon.

Will, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It does sound like #2 is starting to wear but then again, the engine is 10 years old and god only knows how many miles. If you're ever back up in my area we can run a leak down test on it and see how you score there.

Interesting my #2 is what died on my engine, I wonder if that cylinder sees any greater than normal stresses.

I turned down the clutch job b/c I was afraid of him having too much down time. His buddy has a lift a I told him it was best to let him tear it apart.

Interesting. I've heard #3 sees the most heat because of the design of the block.

Do you count the cylinders this was way:

4 3 2 1

???

If I were to count them 1 2 3 4 then my #3, to some people, would be going, which would fit the bill of a normal wear and tear car.

Checked compression today on that cylinder.

190 and 195 with a warmed up motor and throttle open.

It came up a little, but it's still a sign in my mind that it is dying a healthy life.
