88 CRX B18C runs down modded E46 M3 at Barber
Well I finally have some track footage but it came from the driver of the car I overtook, a black E46 (V8) M3. This guy takes tons of track video. Here is his car sig:

Here are his mods:
DINAN S2 M3 + :Stage 4 Engine Software - 8250 Redline; High Flow Intake/Air Mass Meter Assembly; Free Flow Exhaust; High Flow Throttle Bodies; Strut and Shock Tower Braces; Stage 3 Suspension System; 3.91 Limited Slip Differential; Signature Series Floor Mats, BMW Motorsports Euro Headers, Larini GT Sport Cats, Eisenmann Meisterchaft Catback Exhaust Pipe Section II, Brembo Gran Turismo Brake System 355 F/R, UUC Evo Short Shifter Kit, CDV removal, UUC RKII Knob & SS E-Brake, BMW Aluminum Brake/Clutch/Gas Pedals, AC Schnitzer Carbon Fiber Front Lip Spoiler/Flippers/Aluminum Strut Brackets, 19" BBS Diamond Black RS-GT, BMW M3 CSL SMC Trunklid, BMW M3 CSL Carbon Fiber Rear Diffusor, Dynashield Clear Bra Plus, Michelin Pilot Sport Cups
I could have sworn he was waiting for me to do a video of him I guess running me down because he popped up from the parking area near race control when I showed up rather than going to grid straight from his paddock space. He waved me forward and I wave him forward instead in that I like to chase "rabbits" than be chased but if I was smart I should have gone first so I could be seen in the video better. Well we pull out on track and as is usual there is some gap between us. I close up some of the gap on the first lap while putting heat into my Kumho V710 r compounds. The M3 is on Michelin Pilot Sport Cup r compounds. We get through with the warm up lap and I start driving in earnest at that point. I start getting a run on him in the turn 2-3 complex and get a run down the straight to turn 5, the hairpin. By that time I am up his tailpipe with a good apex, an earlier throttle and the opportunity to take a pass on him. He gives me the point by, I think he backs out of the throttle a touch for the pass (thank you) and then puts the hammer back down. We get down into the corkscrew/museum turn and he is trying to maintain contact BUT in doing so hits the throttle too soon. Once I had finished my 2-3 shift I looked in my rearview, saw his tail wiggle and right around it went all the way to a halt. LOL. Bye bye,
The M3 driver finds me and is eager to tell me that his rears were 2lbs. off in pressure. And? Ah that is why I went around him. I see. Then he said he was on his "warm up" lap and that he let me by. I said BS. He posted the video (I was prodding him pretty hard). The video is here where the CRX takes the M3 out of the hairpin:
http://www.miklm.com/upload/ced/TheChinSpin06.wmv
The M3 driver had another video posted about his big "battle" with a modded E36 M3 on the same day, same track. Well I went to that video and I put a stopwatch to what I call his segment time, start finish to the second apex cone at the hairpin which is where I passed him. Yep, stopwatch does not lie. His fastest clean laps to the hairpin from the start finish line were 33 seconds. His time from that start finish line on lap two in the video with the CRX? 33 seconds. He was trying for all he could when I was behind him. I worked my way to the rear of his car and earned the pass and he looped it trying to keep up in the next turn. If you want to see the other "battle" video to do the segment times yourself go to this:
http://www.miklm.com/upload/ced/TheBigBattle_Chin06.wmv
It was a fun day.

That is because he decided he didn't want people to see his car getting passed by a CRX and took it down. We are trying to fix that( I saved the video and am trying to find a host like this place!!). . Funny all his other videos work except the one where a 20 year old CRX runs him down.

I've "heard" that in some cars 2lbs can make a world of difference, but I have my doubts. NASCAR seems to be obsessed with .5lb increments so I guess it's possible.
That E36 seems to be clearly faster than him regardless of his not being able to pull away. The driver in the E36 didn't seem to take "race" lines while the E46 was all over the track trying to keep up.
Nice video of you popping out of no where only for him to spin out.
HA..........yea, "must of been some oil on the track"..

What an IDIOT!
At about 9:55 into the video he almost hits him going into the turn!
Then the E36 let him pass, probably in fear of losing his car!!!

He ignored two yellow flags and tagged the Porsche Cup car off driver's right in the video. Took out his carbon fiber driver's door and broke his left front suspension.
