Pure drag car ideas

I've been thinking lately (dangerous, i know) about transforming my car to a full drag car. I will never be able to drive it on the road again but i can't stand to part with it. Remember a while back when somebody took an automatic escort and stripped it down and cut off the roof and took off most of the frame and it ran a 13.9 or something. If i got the rex down to like 1200 pounds i wonder what it would run. I dunno, i just can't think what life would be like if i didn't get to drive a rex every once and a while.

you're not getting a crx down to 1200 pounds without cutting it down to not being useful. And if you're doing that you're destroying a car for no reason and no track will let you run.

Just so ya know, the car's already destroyed. If I could find a way to get it into drag racing shape, i wouldn't have to send it to a junk yard which is my only other option. I would really like to prolong this cars life, if only on a track only basis. I have some parts that i will need to get rid of. Like a cool split board that covers the hatch area made out of 1/2 inch mdf. I'd sell off the sunroof too (no rust) and just weld some sheet metal over the hole. The seats can go after i fix the drivers one. I'll post up pics.

but 1200 lbs is way way way light.

id say youd be lucky to break 1600 race weight, with like fiberglass frontend, rivit in windows, etc...

oh, i thought you meant cutting it up like SCC did. I'm all for full drag cars.

I'd say 1500-1600 pounds is about the limit you can get. I'd go with lexan/fiberglass over metal in most areas as it's light as hell. I'd be skeptical if the 1/2" MDF would be lighter than a hatch with lexan and no wiper motor.

No No No, i have a floor for the cargo area that i cut out custom templates for and it's hinged in the middle. I'll get pics up.
Yeah i was exagerating a little, i wouldn't expect to be able to get below 1500-1600 lbs anyway.

I have a friend with a b18a1 longblock that he wants to get rid of cheap ($300). All i would need to get is the trans, axles, mounts and chip my ecu. I still need to cut the extension piece off of the shifter rod cause, after taking off the short shifter, it's hitting the rubber mount right behind the shifter.

If i buy the b18 off him he'll sell me his 94 civ ex for $1250 and i kinda need a daily driver since i crashed the rex. The z6 in his ride has 256,000 miles but i will have my A6 block if his ever lets go. I personally know the car, and it seems like a good thing if i jump on it cause he wants $$ for a down payment on a 02 wrx.

I need to quit my job as a chef and go to turkey hill cause this one girl i know works there and she said she'd get me the job. Picture this, back when i worked at Hess Express, i worked overnight @ $8 an hour and got 42-45 hours a week and brought in $300-$330 a week. Now i work as a chef, working 2-10(which kills your social life) @ $7 an hour sweating my ass off and only getting 25 hours a week and pulling in $300 every 2 weeks. It's not cutting it for me. I may go back to school cause i have an IQ of like 129 and i want to use it to make the kind of money i want. Hey, Jadkar, what is you're specific job title and how much schooling did you need to get it? I could probably be a freaking doctor but i don't think i wanna go in for that much schooling.

I'm a Wintel server engineer. I didn't go to school for it. I spent 2.5 years in night school for application development (programmer). I ended up getting my first gig with Merrill Lynch just because they liked my programming experience and I was generally very knowledgeable with PCs. My first job out of school was desktop support. I had that gig for 1 year and they I became supervisor of my department. Eventually I had 6 SAs underneath me and then 9/11 hit. My team ended up working our asses off and I received serious recognition. Lots of things happened after that but I ended up where I am now working with servers instead of desktops.

Everything is relative, my job is OK but I'm desperately trying to get out and get my business moving.

Alright, i see it as i need a few things before i can start racing my car. Firstly i want a one-piece front end, some light rims with some decent drag radials, a new drivers door, some 4 guage wire for the battery relocation, and sheet metal to cover my sunroof hole.

This shold probably be moved to the drag racing forum. That is a more appropriate forum and that is why we have it.

But IMO, forget about racing......period. Go to school and don't be that person who's forty taking orders at Wendy's talking about how you have this awesome IQ and you COULD have been a doctor.

Racing is expensive and unless you are a pro team and winning events, then it is a money pit for pure enjoyment.

Part the car and junk it, then buy a beater and go to school............any school.

Will speaks the truth right there...building a race car is seriously a money pit...I know ppl who are selling there weekend racers becuz they put to much money into and cant afford it anymore..$300 every 2 weeks is not goin to even cover your supplies you are goin to need jsut to get the car to the track and back home..

make it a road course racer, lots of fun and you can do it more than 16 secs at a time, less money and time working on some that broke. drag racing is fun but its really hard on parts.
