Check your brake lines!
This line had not YET busted. The stainless steel had worn through though and it would have gone at any moment.
This is what happen when you ghetto rig your lines with improper mounting. The lines had been rubbing on the axles and it slowly wore out the stainless lines revealing a cheap nylon tube that just got sliced open by the super sharp exposed stainless wires.

yikes, that could have been problematic for you. why'd you go with braided lines instead of solid ones?

I like stainless steel lines better than rubber. Rubber gets old and cracks. That's what happen to the lines previous to these. I have Russel's lines now and like them better than Earl's. No matter what brand line I would have had, the outcome would have been the same. Although I think the russels lines would have held up longer and I think stock rubber lines would have burst sooner. Either way, a hole in the line is BAD for business.

Also, I bought the whole kit for disk rears so if I ever decide to go with disk in the rears I now have a set of brand new lines waiting to go in

true, but as long as you're not tail gating when you realize they go, you're still driveable enough to get back home. i keep a pint of brake fluid, a quart of oil, and a gallon of water in the trunk, just in case something decides to crap out on the road.

Ah....no.....he couldn't drive back home. Also, he lost them at 103.28mph (to be exact). But like he said it WAS on the track so he had plenty of room to downshift and coast back down with the parking brake. Very lucky

i've heard of non-coated stainless lines not lasting long with street use because dirt gets between the steel bands and wears them fast. Just what i heard though from some road race guys.. something to keep an eye on at least.

Yea, I heard the same thing. I also don't believe it anymore after taking off my old lines. The stainless steel braids were perfect except for the part what was actually rubbing on spinning metal. My new lines do have a coating however.

While we were sitting in the parking lot after it happened that's the first thing I said to him. All I could think of was "The Heel of the Boot" (turn #7) at WGI or even turn #1 off the front straight. It would have been soooo bad. Car in the wall for sure...........very lucky!!

yeah seriously! Drag strip is probably the best place for them to go out. Any kind of a road course and you're more than likely to be headed full speed at something hard when you find out the brakes are out...
Good reminder to mount them right and check them frequently
BTW I'm thinking of ordering Goodrich lines - any recommendations one way or the other on brand? Sounds like you're not so hot for Earl's

I love my lines from Fast Brake (one of our sponsors ) They are coated SS and they have all the factory "tie back" clips on them to keep them out of harms way.

The Earl's lines had all the clips appropriately place. My lines are Russel's and they are coated with clips also aproprately place. I don't think it matters which ones you get as along as you install them right. I had them installed "ghetto" due to me accidentally swapping my "clips" when I replaced my shocks (right is on the left side an left is on the right side......oooppsss).
