Skunk 2 Stage One Cams
Does anyone have s2 stage one camshafts in a B-series? I'm considering them but want to hear some feedback before spending the cash.

here's a little bit of wisdom the tran man threw my way

I had skunk2 stage 1 cams, I'm sure if you search in the Si forum you can find all the threads I started when I was buying them and installing them. As far as the performance, they were great! I wanted a cam that was aggressive but safe. The ctr cams werent quite aggressive enough, but the stage 2 cams were a tad bit too aggressive. I didnt want to worry about idle issues, etc...
After tuning I was def able to notice a difference down low and up top without a doubt. Matched with the race header, intake and exhaust, and TUNING the car was very strong. I'd have to pull the dyno's but I remember the day I got the final tuning done, I was almost dea even with an ITR that was dynoed there.
Skunk2 claimed that with their stage 1 cams, tuning wasnt required, but I promise you it is.
Was it worth it?? Personally I think I wasted a lot of money with parts for my car, but i say that now cause im older... I had a blast modding my car and installing the parts. I learned so much and met so many cool people.
If you want some go + a very reliable daily driver, I would def follow the route I took. My suggestion to you though is get ALL the parts you need before you start installing stuff. You'll need an ecu, chip, harness, clutch, fpr, cams, cam gears, vafc or hondata, I/jdmH/E, and im sure the list goes on...
feel free to ask any questions

If I were to buy stage 1 cams, would I need to upgrade my valve springs and retainers and all that jazz?

skunk 2 says that for stage 1's you dont need to since they arent all that aggressive. Wise man would say upgrade it anyway so you dont have to worry about it later. peice of mind is worth alot. i had stage 2's and i upgraded everything including the cam gears. when that vtec hit like jon said every body and their mother knew it. it was great plus i had the n1 exhaust so the sound was loud and obnoxious. i loved it. stage ones are worth it if you dont plan on going aggressive later on. some people can get away without tunning them but why deprive the engine of that. youll get so much more out of them if you tune that way you really get your moneys worth. again you dont really have to upgrade your vavle train but if its old you might as well since the head will be taken apart and you can save extra money instead of doing it again later on. if you plan on going more aggressive later the valve train will be ready and all you gotta do is slap the cams in time them then tune.

yeah, i'd step it up to aftermarket just to be on the safe side. if you stick to your stock stuff, they've already to xxx thousand miles on them, and then a more aggressive grind will only put more stress on them. so putting new stuff in just makes sense (atleast to me).

but once you get to stage 2 then you absolutely need tuning, and also you'll start affecting your driveability.

i have never been in a car that was untuned that had problems with driveability with stage 2-3 cams before
the only time the idle was even rough was when they had solid mounts

my car untuned was a nightmare. it was drivable but the idle sucked and sometimes would shut off on me. sometimes the rpms would surge for no reason. stage twos deffinitely need tunning plus have you seen the size of those things compared to the gsr's? stage twos need tunning deffinitely plus if you throw them in without it you wont get much power you will loose power gauranteed especialy if vtec engages at 4400rpms. you lose power up until 6k. the 2's are meant for power up top. The ones you can get away with without tunning but that wouldnt make sense if you spent money and not want all the power you can out of them.

What about these?
Thank's a lot! After checking for some used camshafts on eBay I noticed these. They seem like a safe bet and they're way cheaper than Skunk 2 or Spoon.

you get what you pay for. Skunk2 and spoon have proven quality and proven power. how much is peice of mind worth to you? that you are going to invest hard earned money on something beacause its cheaper and cant gaurantee you the power those other cams can and will give you? think about it.
