Need some suggestions for body parts...
Hello everyone...this is my first post in the CRX forum. Here's the lowdown. I bought a 1990 CRX DX auto tranny a couple years ago. It had some rust issues since it was originally from New York, but the engine only had 65k on it. I've had some body work done but it really needs a repaint. I want to get another hatch, hood, and fenders since they are either dented, rusty, or both. I'm strongly considering just going carbon fiber on the hood and hatch...but I don't know what brand is the best (Vis, Seibon, Carbon Worx...). Concerning the fenders, I'd like to just get some stock replacements but the oem prices seem pretty steep and any on ebay are dented or rusty. What would you guys suggest?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the long link. I also have a 1990 CRX DX with auto tranny, I love it...get ready to get ragged for having the auto. I did the MPFI conversion. It is well worth it. Good luck.

Seibon is the best quality hand layed carbon fiber yet expensive, but Vis is the best for the money.

Thanks for the info...I've aslo read good things about Seibon, but I'm really interested in the CRX hatch...has anyone heard about using it?
Heh...I know I bought an auto...but I was a little naive back then...I really knew nothing about cars (but did know the CRX was just plain hot and very reliable). Once I get the body problems taken care of I'd like to go with a JDM d15b dual VTEC...I'm all about that fuel economy while reserving moderate horsepower.

The CF hatch is great, but you're not going to save a lot of weight unless you use Lexan glass, which is not street legal. If you want to save some money, I would just try and find a used one in good shape, or maybe keep your eyes out for a JDM one with bronze tinted glass.

Yah...I know a used one is the cheapest way to go...but I live in Birmingham, AL, and the only place I have a chance of finding one is Atlanta (unless someone knows another place). The thing is I don't have any friends with trucks and I'm taking a class this summer so it's kinda a bitch to take about an 8 hour (a crude estimate) total trip there. I've also been checking ebay, craigslist, and some forums constantly. I'll have about 3 weeks at the end of August to work on my baby...so I'm getting kinda restless. But I may end up going to ATL after all since my income is somewhat limited at the moment.
I appreciate all the feedback though.

Just so ya know, i'm selling my engine to whoever wants it. The D16A6 is a BIG improvement powerwise over what you have now. You get a 25-30 hp bump and you dont have to shell out the big bucks for a b16 swap.

Hate to be an ass but my engine is also for sale, and completly rebuilt, but charlie's is probably cheaper. And just to let you know it's a bitch and a cunt to convert from automatic to manual. But the floorboard has predrilled holes for the pedals so it's not all that bad. I actually converted an EK to manual so if you need help let me know. As for the carbon hatch, the weight of the hatch is mostly the glass. I wouldn't worry about it, the CRX is light enough.

Yeah, auto to manual is a bitch. He could still bolt up a new "D" to his existing tranny.

I have a D16Z6 head on a Y7 block with my auto tranny and get around pretty quick. I get 35-40 MPG.

Cool...but I think the dual vtec is my ultimate goal...I like the specs on it and seems like an easy bolt in, only problem is the wiring from what I've read.

Haha an easy bolt in. You make it sound as though you can do it on a Sunday afternoon. Well I'm sure it would've been easier if I didn't have to keep A/C and convert to OBD-1,

Heh...oh I realize the dual vtec engine is a bitch to install...but from what I've read (and there's not a whole lot on it) the actual bolting in is the least of one's worries. I've been searching for info into the swap of such a monstrosity...with little luck so far. Also, Nippon-motors quoted me a hefty price for it without the transmission or accessories. Maybe the price really is steep but it seems rather exboritant for a SOHC with 2 little vtec solenoids.

Hey...just in case anyone sees this....I started a thread in the hydrid/swap forum requesting any info regarding a JDM d15b dual vtec, or 3-stage vtec (however one wishes to name it). I know some think it's a crazy idea...but I say why not; you match a light bodied CRX with a high mpg motor that puts down respectable horsepower and you have a sporty car that's friendly to your wallet.

No motor is hard to install if it just involves bolting in. Weld in mounts for K series make it difficult along with shifter cables and cutting.
B series is just as easy as D series if you have all your parts ready to go.

OK Will, this will be one of the rare occasions I'm going to disagree with you I was master of my D-Series. I could have the engine out in less than 45 minutes (with a lift). Now the B on the other hand is at least a 2-3 hour proposition, and forget it if it's Supercharged.
Hell, like I said last night I have to take my supercharger & intake off just to get the trans out!!
