Wheel Stud question.
I picked up a wheel stud from (zips up flame suit) AutoZone the other day to replace my loose/stripped one.
http://www.fourthgenhatch.net/wheelstud.html << there is the "O-G" how too for how to do it, but in reading it I'm questioning why he cut the stud.
Can anybody tell me why he did this?

Not sure why either, but it is not nessacary to cut the head of the stud. The more of a mating surface that the stud has against the back of that plate, the better.

never seen that rediculessness(sp?)
it only takes like 2 min with a min sledge to pound out the old, then like .5 seconds to put the new one in with an air hammer

You guys are noobs
Here's the reason.......are you ready.....
The dude had to cut the end of the stud on an angle because you can't install a wheel stud on a CRX without taking the hub off the knuckle. There is not enough room to get it through. You have to insert it on an angle, but when you do the head of the stud gets in the way. So instead of doing it the correct way (which is taking the hub off) he shaved the head of the stud. He was able to bang out the broken stud because it was broken. So instead of it being let's say 2.5" long it was only 1.0" hence there was no issue.
This is the only shot I have, but imagine trying to push my studs all the way through they would never make it (I know mine are longer then stock )

Make sense, let me know and I will try to explain it again

ok, well, he did cut the back of the wheel hub too, i assumed he did it so he can take the old stud out, and I still don't see why he had to grind the base of stud down.
like this...
and the pic no load jadkar posted.

I still don't get how it wouldn't fit with out. but are you saying there isn't enough room for the head of the stud to sit behind the hub?

^^
The picture he posted is really deceiving. The piece that he cut is the brake disc shield. If you look on mine I can't even run the shield, and yes you can't see it from the photo but there still is no room for the stud to come out.

aaah, i see. so I'll assume the knuckle/spindle is in the way of doing this instead of the shield.
and just plainly no room at all. thanks
