do you bottom out??

Do you bottom out your exhaust or oil pan??

If so......

1) which one exhaust or pan?

2) how often?

3) doing what .... normal driving, bad bump/crown in the road, bouncing the suspension?

I'm asking because my B18C-r hangs down fairly low and my Kamikaze down pipe and or oil pan have been taking a beating. I don't jump the car it just seems to be happening on bad roads where the crown in the center is too high or there are a series of small bumps that get the suspension bouncing. The car never leaves the ground but sometimes on a rebound I hear the pan/header hit. My header is pretty flattened out and the pan has definite marks of road rash. On average I would say I bottom once every other week

Actually I raised my car back up to stock ride height. But when mine is on a lift, you can see where the floor pannels are actually pushed back up into the car. And my exhaust still occasionally does. (bad hanger)

if anything that bottoms out on my car..is the front bumper lip. especially when your going to a drive through, and you come out and go onto the road, you have to go in on an angle, but it still kinda bottoms out.

exhaust and frontend.....but scraped aftermarket front ends with chips all over > flawless front end lol

im runnin a baffled sump but that never hits. thank God. my suspension although low has quite a fast bound/rebound ratio. so i rarely hit anything else as a result. im more likely to 3 wheel in most circumstances (or at least have one wheel unloaded)

and flawless exhausts are for wimps and/or kids.

my cf is in splinters because of it lol

On a big dip in the road or a real hard turn, my wheels rub a bit. That's all though. My car isn't super low due to the 16" wheels, and when I got my exhaust done, the shop kept it tucked up because they knew my car was going to be dropped.

What, mostly front lip and exhaust...

When, speed bumps, parking garages and things like that...

Why, 3.5" drop might just be a bit too much for a crx...

my header, my oil pan, the back end of my exhaust and the pipe leading to it. the n1 is angled so the back of the exhaust hangs lower than the tip. the tip is pointed upwards. I had between a 1.5-2" drop. kyb gas shocks with ground control coil's. the bottom of my front bumper was all scrapped up. Kev youde love the battle damage. the fender well covers even ripped off.

i always scrape my exhaust. one time it was so bad, my tip was bent to the shape of a moon! i had to hammer the dent out. im getting my exaust refitted and made a little shorter so it will sit more flush with the rear bumper, probably making it less likely to get fucked up like that.

Mine, stock dx springs with gr-2 shocks and pos obx exhaust, always hits the muffler. Big dips or bumps when I'm going a good speed will make it happen.
Also when I have 3 or more people, or a passenger that is over 200lbs it happends quite often, but my oil pan has never made contact and I jump a hill on the way home from work 7 days a week of corse its just a little d15

^^

Thanks guys, I'm thinking about having something fabricated to go under my oil pan. From the Full Race traction bar back to the cross member (near the steering rack). Hopefully this may protect the oil pan from road rash. It won't help me with large "crash" type bottom outs, but it's really the road rash & light scraps I'm concerned about.

There's some heavy compression sections at WGI & Limerock and I'm very concerned about oil pan contact at speeds over 100mph. The friction may be enough to rub through and oil the track.

I'm gonna loose some more ground clearance by adding a skid plate but I think it's a smart modification. The header I could give a damn less. The kamikaze headers down pipe can be purchased separately for not that much. I should buy a few and keep them with my oil filters

Do you have a big dent in the bottom of your muffler also?

I'm running Progress coilovers that are specific for a B18 swap in a CRX It's not the springs it's a combination of.......bad roads, too tall of an engine in the car, and the car is too low.

i think losing oil pressure is the biggest concern of all for u. just be careful where u mount the bash plate. if u end up increasing the rigidity in the front end. e.g. between the front control arms or tension rods....then if u hit something, the 'weak link' is moved elsewhere in the sub structure. so u'll be hoping u dont bend something more major.

I usually scrape my cat the most (magnaflow), but my Mugen header is pretty f-ed and flattened on the bottom. About three weeks ago I bottomed out on a shitty speed bump and something has been rattling ever since. One time I was coming out of the mall going through an intersection with a huge dip way too fast and my engine cradle slammed. That was pretty scary. Then two days ago I pulled into my buddies work and went straight through a puddle atleast 6 inches deep and covered the entire entrance. After that my car has been missfiring like crazy (changed plugs and tested wires already). Road quality around here pretty much sucks.

It just sounds like you have the car set too low. I have a "test" road that I did my ride height setting which has the series of bumps that get your car to oscillate just right and scrape. I have a skid plate on my header. I ran down it and heard it hitting too many times and too loudly without damaging things. With the ground control sleeves I raised it up a bit and now on the worst compressions I hear just a slight "ching" scrape. Just right. Low enough to hit on the worst sections but high enough not to rip an oil pan off or screw up my headers.
