Aftermarket Parts Coverage
Who here has succesfully covered their car and aftermarket parts? Geico basically said they wouldn't cover anything. I gave them an example of covering and $6k on top of a blue book value of $2500.
So how do you cover an expensive car that isn't expensive

you might have to have it appraised. They do it with collector cars for sure.
You might of just gotten a crappy rep because i know most insurances will cover anything if you tell them ahead of time.

I'm in Canada, so it's probably different, but our provincial insurance will cover anything if you pay the deductible. My friend's Lude got rear ended while parked and got pushed over a curb destroying his CF front lip and bumper. He paid his deductible and got a new bumper AND LIP! Of course monthly/yearly cost will go up because of that, but they covered it.

Progressive automatically covers items which are 'permanently affixed to the car' with a value up to $1000,00 unless you ask them to cover more (which will affect your premium).
So, for example if you were to get into a wreck with your car, and your stock front bumper, your CF hood, your stock headlights, and your JDM corner lights get wrecked, the payout would work like this:
Front bumper = $225
Stock Hood = $300
CF Hood = $600 (Aftermarket = 600-stock 300 = 300.00)
Headlights = $125
Corner Lights (Stock) = $60.00
Corner Lights (JDM) = $80.00 (aftermarket = 80 - Stock 60 = $20.00)
Cash from Regular Insurance:
225+300+125+60= $720.00
Cash from the 1K cap of aftermarket stuff:
300(CF hood difference)+20(JDM corners difference)= $320.00 out of the $1000.00 cap.
Now, if you added stuff that got destroyed that didn't exist in the origional car (like subwoofers, or a trailer hitch (don't laugh, I'm trying to think of stuff), or crazy neon underlighting kits) then that comes directly off of the 1K 'aftermarket' coverage.
I know this because I got into an accident with my old Jeep, and that's how it worked. The adjuster may try to screw you over (that's their job), but if you're smart, and know how it works, then the'll use the formula above.
-Des!
EDIT: Things that are not attached to the car (like CD's) are not covered by this 'aftermarket clause'.

if you call your insurance rep and let them know youi want more coverage on your car, they can not put additional coverage on your car, your monthly premium may go up but atleast you have the coverage. Your insurance rep will want to take pics of the car also

I had to ditch my insurance company because they don't do "Stated Value" insurance. I'm currently going with Liberty Mutual and I have to set an apt. up with a vehicle appraser. I have to show this guy all my receipts, which I have, then I have to submit them to Liberty Mutual. Once that process is done I will be covered. God only knows how much they are going to charge me

If your car is worth it to you then the coverage is no big deal man. with all the work you put into that car man i would put the coverage on it. especially if you have a tendancy of leaving it parked outside.

I think you're house will have lower premium then the car, considering they cost about the same but the house can't be jacked or hit by another car or go, 0-60 in under 4 seconds
