Mini Me Swap Help

Well I have all the money and almost all the parts for doing my mini me head swap (with a Y8 head). I have a few concerns still because I've never done this before. I want to do the head swap, then wire it back up without VTEC. I am going to pay to get the wiring done so I know it'll be done right. Anyways here's my concerns:

1. I don't have any good write ups on how to do the swap. I couldn't find any on Honda Tech or anywheres. If anyone has any it would be a HUGE help to me.

2. Wiring and distributors. I am going to be running OBD1 with an untouched P28. I don't have the OBD0-1 conversion harness yet, but I can order it anytime. I am concerned about what to do with the distributor. I have the dist. from the Y8 which is basically new and came with NGK plug wires, so I'd like to keep it. Nick was saying I can use this dist. with OBD1 even though it's OBD2. I would like to know how this is possible and what I would have to do to get it to work. I'm working with 3 series of On Board Diagnostic here so I'm getting confused as hell! Can someone shed some light??

Thanks to anyone who can help out. Imaginary reps will be given

i talked to ryan at rywire about the distributor stuff a while ago. The obd2 dizzy is wired a little different from what he was saying but it will work. If you look at their site, on the obd2->obd1 conversions they keep the same distributor so they are similar in inputs/outputs/components.

Another option you have is you could do what i finally decided on and get a obd1 non-vtec distributor. They bolt straight up to the y8 head. For some reason the z6 distributor is the only one that was an oddball. Not sure why Honda did that.

As far as a writeup, it's exactly the same as a normal head gasket/timing belt replacement minus the removing the oil control jet. I went off of this one: http://crx.honda-perf.org/articles/z6swap/z6swap.html but really i'd just have a normal manual and follow that.

Thanks man!

I got my factory Honda manual, so that will help a lot. I like having a good set of instructions, just so you know you have everything needed, everything is undone and then bolted up to spec.

I will email Ryan about the distributor and see what he says.

Thanks Tim. I always forget about D-Series.org. I should really sign up there soon.

Got an email from Ryan today:

Quote:
Corey, yes the dizzy will work, just wire it up accordingly. The colors are different on some y8 dizzys, so lemme know your colors, and engine year. Is our car a mpfi crx?? This makes a difference on what harness to order

Ryan
So apparently you can use a Y8 dizzy without any problems. Still waiting on another reply after answering some more questions. Just thought I'd keep you guys posted.
