B16 here i come!!

wooooot, my graceful parents have come to an understanding for my car and they're gonna buy me a complete b16a1 swap over for my crx, complete with hasport mounts and linkage all from Hmotors. this is alot of money to be spending on a motor swap for me and my rents, so hopefully nothing is wrong with the motor when i recieve it. putting it in is another situation i'll be needing help with this. no dont get me wrong, i'll still have to repay my parents back overtime. so dont be thinking i'm a momma's boy or something. this shit is legit and i cant wait to recieve it. i hope i hear lots of good compliments on hmotors. cause like i said. this is a big investment to be choosing.

HAHA I find it funny that when I ordered my engine last week you said "I Wish I could afford a B16". What kind did you get? The CRX SiR or the Integra XSi?

If you are only lookig for 160hp you can get it from a d-series cheaper and have a better powerband. I've seen more than a couple b16 cars struggle to break 14 seconds.

Also, there was a long topic on honda-tech a while back about b18b vs. b16a with the b16 tranny and there were numerous people who had run both setups (either their friend had a b16 or they swapped to a b18b to go turbo) and said the b18b was faster. May sound like BS but i believe it. Having a good powerband is more important than peak HP.

Furthermore, a stock 1st gen B16 dynos around 136hp at the wheels and a 2nd gen around 144whp. By comparison, a stock d16a6 will dyno around 100whp. AND they have similar torque numbers (hahaha).

Not trashing the b16, i just feel that for the money there are much better routes to go.

Go buy this months Honda Tuning. Good article about how D series can make damn good power, and are the best bang for your buck. Also, they have a big write up on camshafts, and how if done properly, the SOHC can be superior to DOHC

Save The SOHC!!!

Back on topic: Tim you mommas boy, don't leave this motor sitting in the cold all winter

lmao corey no worries, its going in when i get it. i'll be making a call out to people to help me with the swap cause i havent done it before. the motor is the crx sir complete swap over. i know the b16 is overrated but you have to figure out, not alot of peeps here where i live have a b16 engine in they're crx. also was kinda thinking of how i can boost the hp up to about 200. but i guess i'll cross that bridge when i get to it. as soon as the motor is in my crx. the cavey is being sold.

<---Also a B16 hater.

HOWEVER, considering his circumstances I would say it's a great option. His rents probably don't want some "unreliable" built D16 going in when he could have a perfectly fine stock B16. It will look like stock just sitting in the engine bay and will still have more kick than his stock set-up. He'll have no worries about it running once it's all in and wired up. No tuning issues to worry about either.

But, yes, there are better options available out there.......circumstances pending.

Good luck, have fun with it.

P.S. Hmotors is as legit as legit gets.

Its a good pick up circumstances permitting. And in the light crx the b16 will make a big difference. Though if you were shooting for 200whp you will probably end up upping the displacement on it. I started with a b18c and upped the displacement to 1.9l. I maxed at 195 because the fuel pump sucked. You can hit 200 but it will take some work and alot of money. If you build a crx with the b16 motor right you wont need a whole lot of hp that car will move and it will move nicely.

funny coz over here your car can only be upgraded to the next available 0.2cc to ur stock cars (ie a 1.3L can go up to 1.6, 1.6 can go up to 1.8 and so on) or else the road authorities won't approve it. they used to let us go wild so u see a 1.3 car put in an evo engine in to their cars but the new laws would need us to send our cars for a proper inspection to see if the car is road worthy and all.. (they're doing this becoz there are some idiots who buys cars that are cut in half which is cheaper and weld it back together.. there were a few major accidents occuring where u see the car break into 2 pieces killing passengers and dumb hoons that were driving the car like a dumb ass on the streets)

so there's not much of a choice if you're doing an engine upgrade swap.. but..even though i drove a 1.6 sohc last time, i decided to choose a JDM B16A... due to financial and parts reasons as the engines over here comes in a half cut and i needed the wiring, a/c to be fitted nicely into my EG so i bought a EG6 SiR II halfcut to make the swap easier...

ps.. i actually got the swap done in 1 day!

I think for the money he is spend he is getting a damn good deal. It all depends on what type of powe rhe wants. Obviously he wouldn't be wanting to go hellishly fast if he just getting the B16. I think for what it is, how much it costs and out of the box power...its a damn good choice.

i would also look into buying the hasport wiring harness for your car, i've had a few problems out of mine but for the most part its good bang for the buck.
i love the d series motors, but the b series has "more room to grow". Very seldom do you hear of a 200 whp d series, but you do hear that with the b series.
just my opinion

haha, Honda-Tuning is the only magazine i subscribe to. I'm behind on reading them though because of finals and ish. I just saw the article now. 140.2 whp and 101.4wtq for a 99 Civic Si (b16 of course) with an AEM intake? I really wish that they overlayed the 2 dyno charts though because i'd like to see the powerband difference.

I agree but you gotta remember that you're giving the b16 credit for it's big brother's work. 200whp is possible out of a 1.6L b16 but it's going to take major work (higher compression, cams, etc. etc.)

i agree also, but with the cams and pistons, ect, you get more power and tq.
pistons are just as much for d series as they are for a b series. They only thing we have to buy more of is a cam.

And i have been beaten by a turbo'd sohc civic before. it was ugly!!

ok ok so achieving 200hp is out of the question then, lol just so long as i get the essientials on my set up such has upgraded: dizzy cap with wires, air intake, exhaust and maybe advance the timing by 1 or 2 degrees.
and rhythm kid, i appreciate all the compliments and respect dude, just boosted my confidence alot and i cant wait to get this engine. so tomorrow i'll get the cheque go to the bank and get a money order, send it to hmotors and the rest is history.
trust me, if i had the knowledge to rebuild engines, i would of kept my dohc and did alot of work to it.
so once i do prolly get the engine in. i'll save up some money and my suspension is prolly gonna be next. but i'll cross that bridge when i get to it.
OH and the guide i'm following is this one: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1193782&page=1
i'll keep you posted.
