Well ran out of gas on friday... again.
This is officially the 4th time I run out of gas in my CRX.
Driving on my way back from school 369 miles on a full tank of gas, just getting out of school and taking a turn and then stop around a corner, idle is a little rough. So I tap the throttle it becomes fine again.
Start driving and about a mile, mile and a half later the familiar jerking of the car begins, and at this point im doing about 55, but on its on a 55mph road, so I know if i stay in gear ill engine brake like a mofo, so i put in a clutch, get into the outer most left lane, and hope the arrow in front of me turns green before i get there, because obviously if i stop... well im not starting back up again.
As my luck would have it, the light cooperates again, and it turns green and i go through the turn at a blazing 4/5 mph, pull over to the side, put hazards on and get to thinking.
I got no gas canister in my car, gas station is far away. Long story short end up buying another canister (10$) filling it up (6$), with the help of my friend and his car, just to get back to find out that the batery is dead and now i need a jump.
Remind me never to run out of gas.
Cliff's
- 370 miles on a full tank
- Run out of gas while going 55
- Have to spend 16$ for 2 gallons
- Come back battery is dead.
The other 3 times are relatively simpler stories
1st time, run out of gas have enough speed to make it through 4 lights (they were green im happy), and fill up, (first time prepay, overpayed, didnt know i can get my money back, drive off leaving 6 extra dollars on the bill)
2nd time, driving down the SAME PLACE as the first time, same gittery feeling same everything, dont quite make it to the gas station, have to walk over buy my first canidster (10$) and walk back.
3rd time, driving down a big hill, with my apartment complex about 1/4 mile down there, run out of gas, and just cruise into it, with the light being green and me being lucky.
Any good stories from you guys?
I think im breaking some kind of record here, 4 times.

I'm always aware of how much fuel I have left, I have never run out in my life. The only time I ever run out of gas is with a lawnmower, and it was a push mower so I had to walk anyways.

yep. I've never run out of gas in a car. Only on a lawn mower but mine was a riding so i had to drag a gas can out there.
I usually fill my car when it hits the red slash (around 8 gallons used). I don't see any reason to risk going further.

the only time i came close to running out of gas was with my 4th gen - the gas guage had a habit of holding at half tank and then dropping to nothing. fortunately right as i was sputtering there was a station in sight so i pulled right in.
atleast when you got back to your car it was still in one piece!

Yeah, after i put the 90/91 guages in, the gas indicator playes tricks on me, before it was nice and fluently moving, but now it has 3 stages, for 100 miles it will be overfull, then suddently half full, drive for a few hundred more miles, and its on E, even though i have gas.
I dont like to run out of gas, but we just have a very specific method of filling up in the family, where we all use the one gas card where we have like 5% off on all Hess gas purchases, so we only fill up when we have the card, so therefore we have to go home, get the card and then fill up, and i havent been home in 4 days that one day, and i drive a lot so...

Well I knew i was real low, and would run our real soon, but I still took the risk, i was going to get home and fill up.
One DEAD giveaway, is that it takes a little bit of cranking to start the car when im REALLY low, like a gallon or less, sometimes it can turn over 5 times and nothing, turn the key back, and retry and starts up immedeatly.
Usually my motor even with 200K on it, turns over on the first crank of the starter.

That happened to me with my 91 civic 4sp. I was on the lie in ny and the car sputtered and died out one me one exit before mine. i was doing about 80mph so i coasted straight on the highway. no traffic luckily. and as my exit hit theres a gas station on the corner so i coasted in and had plenty of speed left over to make it to the pump without pushing the car.
