The swap begins.
Hey guys, I finially made the swap over the here from "sho". Things are kinda lame over there now....but thanks to the guys who have been posting jadkars progress on his jrsc rex! Some nice numbers, cant wait for some time slips. Anyway, I finially pulled the b16 out of the crx last night! What a process that was, first time for pulling a honda engine for me and my buddies, took us 3hours, the axles and shift linkage gave us the most trouble, still couldnt figure out how to get the shift linkage out of the tranny, ended up un bolting it from the shifter and taking it out with the engine. But the transmission is loaded up and getting dropped off at the tranny shop today, going to have it re-built and put a quaife lsd installed! So by next weekend I should be able to put the new fully built ls/vtec in! Then after the long break in period(I only put 250miles on my rex a month, so ill be taking long drives for no reason)then I order my turbo! Ill try to get some pics and keep everything updated, see ya guys.

update
Well the tranny is in the shop, hopefully they will finish it before the end of the week. Last night we put the new block on the engine stand, pulled the head off the old block and began prepping it. First we took everything off the head (IM, valve cover, thermostat housing, cams/camshafts, etc...)and did a real good cleaning of it, got the years of gunked up oil off it, looks almost brand new. Then we threaded the oil sending hole on the head and put the threaded plug in. Got the arp head studs in place on the block, then went to put the new dowel pins in(from full-race, they make a step down dowel so you dont have to drill the head to fit the larger dowel pin)and this is where this happened the dowel pins didnt fit over the head studs, the smalled end of the pins had a slight taper to it, so as you slid the pin over the stud it would get stuck. After an hour of messing with it and getting pissed trying to get the pin over the stud without forcing it we decided to tap it on to it. Since it was stepped down we slid the old larger pin onto the new one and tapped it with a hammer, it went on sorta easily, it took some aluminum off the inside of the dowel pin but went down and into the hole fine. Once it got past the threads it fit over the center section of the stud. So we put the head gasket on and put the head in place and torqued the nuts in sequence. It was like 9:30 now so we decided to call it quits, but we just need to put the cam shafts back in, distributer, timing belt, and valve cover. Then run the line for the oil feed to the head, which Im concerned about, because I got the whole conversion kit from full-race, and the stainless steel line they give you is only 16 inches long, I held it up there and it looks like it should fit, but thats without the oilfilter and IM in place, so hopefuly it works, otherwise Im going to be pissed at full-race, it took 5 weeks to get this kit from them and the dowel pins sucked and the oil line looks short, not happy with them, but well see what happens. Anyway I have a ton of pictures, so tonight im going to post them, its all coming together and looking good, 11second time slips are only a few months away

Just curious on the tranny. What final drive does it have and are you changing it up? Good luck on the swap. What clutch are you putting in and are you putting in a lightened flywheel?

Im using an integra transmission because thats what came with the car when i bought it. Not my first choice but my budget for the transmission was a little more conservative. So it has the 4.4 final drive, but Im having a Quaifie LSD installed and the synchros replaced, grand total is about $2000, plus the clutch, which Im debating what to get. Ive been looking at ACT, and trying to decide, on the xtreme pressure plate with the street disc good for 319ftlbs of torque, or the 6 puck sprung hub. Im not sure on the 6 puck, if it will be miserable to drive on the street or not any input on this would help, I need something to hold between 300-350ft lbs. Oh and Im going with a 12.5lb flywheel. The transmission shop called today and it will be done tuesday or wednesday, so next weekend it goes back together!

i have a clutch masters clutch ( stage 3) with a fidanza light weight flywheel. I've been very happy with both! The best part about the fidanza is it has replaceable clutch plate surface, that sure does beat getting the flywheel resurfaced with every new clutch

Yea ive looked at the clutch masters, very nice stuff, a little expensive. How is the kevlar on engagement and longevity? I think im going to go with the 6puck sprung hub with the xtreme disc, been looking up reviews and everyone seems to like them, plus the price is right....

them engagement is not as too bad, a little heaver than a stock clutch, but a hell of alot more clamping power. I have almost all abuse miles on it and it has held up just fine, i had my tranny out and was courious on how it was so i tore it apart and almost brand new looking

haha, dont worry there will be video of the 11's, heres the kit im getting http://www.full-race.com/catalog/pro...products_id=30
My goal on 93 octane is 400-450hp at around 18psi. Does anyone know if you need a roll cage to do 11's? I know you need a scatter shield for the tranny, just curious.
Also something else Im looking forward to is a race between me and a guy where I work. He has a '73 corvette, 350 small block, munse transmission(or something like that, I dont know much about domestics), headers/exhaust, maybe a few other bolt ons, no internal work. He talks ALOT of trash, says it wont be a race, itll be a slaughtering, and if he lost hed have to sell his car out of shame, lol. I told him Id put 1000 bucks on it, and he agreed......So im going to make sure I have some GOOD video of that, anyone wanna place some bets?

you need a 4 pt i believe for NHRA tracks for 11.99 and under.
I don't see 400+hp being possible on pump gas though with that setup though. I'd say maybe with a 2.0L. I'd be scared to push it that far though unless i really trusted the tuner.

hum, maybe I need to order a 50 gallon drum of c16 If you check out the link the b18 bored to 84.5(which makes it 2.0L I think)was doing 388hp at only 14lbs, another pound of boost he probably would make right around 400...now I know Im not 2.0L but I think I should be able to come close, well see I guess, I just really want to hit the 11's. My friends have a competition with 1/4 mile times. It started back in the day when the turbo volvo 4 door station wagon hit the 14's, then the m3 hit 13's, now were racing for the 12's, which Im trying to take the 12's and 11's "and if I win, I take the cash and the respect....to some people, thats more important" lol honda love is tough to find, exspeciallly around here, since most of them are POS.....
