Back in my High School days I used to install car stereos and Rio sported a sick setup....

Coustic 360 Amp
Coustic 260 Amp
Coustic 160 Amp

2 -12 Celestion subs
4 - Alpine component tweeters (front ones mounted in the air vents)
4 - Coustic component mids

Coustic active crossover (can't remember the model)

Pioneer head unit AM/FM/Cass. with 6 disc changer in the hatch (totally bling back them)

Everything was mounted in a removable sub-woofer/amp rack so I could take it out when I would autocross. All this stuff was stolen when I lived in the dump of a state called CT (some of you will start to understand why I hate CT so bad). The only thing the bastards didn't steal were my front Alpine tweeters because they didn't find them in the air vents. They are still there today and I'm using them on my new setup

Here's some quick very old 4x6s of the original install back in 1991. Too bad I don't have better photos

Interior torn apart for the install (there's me )

The box being built in my buddy's wood shop (his dad's actually)

Another shot of RIO in pieces

The custom box/amp rack with all the components installed (notice the box is removed for this picture)

Here's one more neat "Off-Topic photo" of RIO & Magic this was taken back in 1994. Notice I had red calipers back then!!! I had them before people thought it was cool

ANYWAY!!! Right now I went light with the system. I eventually may be getting an AVIC D2, but for now I just needed music. I picked up a Alpine 9856 head unit. I'm running Infinity 6.5 co-ax in the rear and Infinity mids up front. I'm utilizing a Infinity passive crossover and my Alpine tweeters that are still in my air vents. The system is being powered right now by the head unit, I may possibly pick up a small 8" woofer and a 4 channel amp. It's OK, not nearly as nice sounding as back in the day, but at the moment most of my listening pleasure is of the SC whine and rubber chirping through 2nd gear

You just talking about the normal mounts or the bass tube style deals?

Normal mounts. Not the uber rare bass tubes

Does it have to be in the CRX? Unfortunately, I have nothing in there.. yet.

My stuff's all pretty old, becuase like Jadkar, I used to be into stereo in my younger days.

In my Jeep, I have the following:

Alpine HU (can't remember the number, because I don't have my Jeep at work today)
It's the first year Alpine's played MP3 CD's, and it's the top model. 45w RMS internal amp which can be turned off. 24db slope internal crossover, digital time correction, and media xpander.

Infinity Reference components - 6.5" woofers, active crossover, and 1" tweeters (all in the soundbar)
Orion 225 HCCA driving the components. (this is a killer amp, the origional sleeper. Stable down to 1/4 ohm)
Eclipse Aluminum 12" Sub DVC (sealed box)
Then the big boy...
Orion 250 HCCA Digital Reference (2nd Gen) Stable down to 1/4 ohm. Bridged, and at a half ohm it pumps out 1600w+/- RMS of pure, old-school power. This thing is really cool.

I got that 250 HCCA for a pair of fake Oakley sunglesses I was peddling back in '96. Total investment: $2.50

That amp goes for $400 easy on ebay nowadays.

Unfortunately, all that stuff is in my Jeep Wrangler currently. (which is for sale, btw)
Eventually I think I'm going to move some of the stuff over to my Honda. In the honda I'll probably only run one 8" sub, though.

My hearing sucks now because of my old car stereo compulsion.

This is too funny!!! I'm the same way. When I installed back in the day my boss used to be a custom "show installer" for Alpine and we used to go to local shows and what not demo'ing crazy setups that he did for Alpine. We used to be subjected to ultra-loud, super high spls. Also, my little REX had over 2500 watts RMS and we all know how tiny the passenger compartment is.

Anyway, what I'm getting to is now I have serious hearing problems in my left ear and after multiple trips to specialists it's been concluded that it's due to working in the stereo industry without proper protection. Your hearing is not something to mess with and now I have to pay the price....forever

It's my left ear too bro.

I've never gone to the doctor about it.

Jadkar's quoted for truth though. It sucks when you're 29+ , and your fiance / wife gets pissed off because you can never hear her quiet little voice.

What? What?!

it's amazing how much different some industries are now with hearing loss. During a concert, it's required now that they give us hearing protection (i'm an usher at a ~9,000 person arena). A while ago i used to not wear it but i do all the time now. A couple of the older people have told us that they can't hear high pitched stuff anymore because they never did when they were younger.

I like to have a decent system like mine because I love music. It is my other passion. So I like to have a nice system for good acoustics. Any type of music sounds great in my car. My box isn't ported, and the single 10 is all I need. A single 12 is almost too much IMO.

I've got a JVC head unit, 6 1/2" Pheonix Gold components all the way around in custom door mounts and rear mounts. 1 1/2" tweeters in the doors. Powered by a crossfire 302 amp. I still need to build a box to install my 2 JL audio 10" subs. The 6 1/2's give pretty good mid bass for now.

10" have more of the punch to them, 12" have more low end, thats why i like them. corey i would advise you go with a ported box. you wont regret it.

one of these days i'm gonna try and up grade my system to all MB Quart speakers and amps, and to a nakamuchi H/U.

Ported = Lame. I don't give a shit about how much it pounds, that's too high school for me. Non ported is better for basically every type of music except rap. So, sorry Fiddy Cent, you will never experience my car stereo.
