If the dx is in as good of a condition as you say, and the drivetrain of the Si is good (apart from the syncros):
I'd completely strip dx to a bare shell and fix the rad/light support. Give it a damn good cleaning, or even a new paint job if you want.
Then strip the drivetrain and suspension from the Si, and transplant to the dx. Use whichever interior you want, and whichever bumpers/fenders.
Then you'll have an Si in a lighter shell, with more headroom, and none of the rust problems.

I've done the bodywork thing already. Believe it or not but my rear fenders had fist sized rust holes too. Last summer my money went into the following:
-New F/R bumper
-Rust free L/R doors
-New front fenders
-New rear fenders welded in
-New rear support beam
A lot of time, money and effort went into it, and I love it. However you have a rust free DX, do that shit up. Swap the drivetrain, clean everything up, and get an siR front. You're missing all the right parts, so it's calling your name! The only thing you'll be missing from the Si is the sunroof, so maybe buy an aftermarket manual moonroof. It'll be lighter anyways. Oh and if your DX has pillar mounted belts (which I think they do), you can swap in the leather European interior; Sex!

88 rex has done this himself and there are write ups all over the net about how to DIY rusty CRXs.
Me I opt'd for a body shop because we all know our strengths and I don't think mine is body work. I figured I'll let someone else do the work and I'll spend the time building the engine and sourcing my parts....... (but you already knew this )

I've tried before...don't get me wrong, it's just the results are never up to what I had imagined. So rather then disappoint myself (especially with this project) I figured I wouldn't try

I did a lot of my bodywork. Sanding, primer, rust protector. Mounted my doors and fenders. The only thing I can't do is weld. I don't know if I'm good at painting, I only primer :P
