Not a normal Wings West Question
I have a question regarding the 91 crx Wings West Mugen knock-off kit.
I found a guy who is selling one which is unpainted, but it has been installed on his vehicle.
Will I have any problems installing a kit which has been installed previously?
I have never seen a wings west kit in person. Is there anything I should look out for when I go to see it?
Any advice would is appreciated. I don't want to go and buy this thing, and find out later that I'm going to run into problems.
Sorry if it's in the wrong section. I figured this was more CRX related, then 'show and go' related.

My advice to you is get pics pics pics, their is lots of ways to install a kit and do it wrong witch in turn looks like shit and basicly ruins it.

Well, I'm going to have my body man install it on my vehicle.
What I'm wondering is, will the kit itself be messed up because it has been installed before?

EDIT: I think the wings west kits do not come predrilled. Therefore, if he's installed the kit, that would mean that he drilled holes to get it to fit to his car. Will those existing holes potentially mess up the kits' installation on my vehicle?

wings west tends to make pretty good quality stuff... I've never really seen anything of theirs that wasn't well made...
as for problems you might run into... first find out what it's made out of... if it's urethane, then you're gonna have a lot fewer headaches with it. Fiberglass, well, be prepared for some fun times (sarcasm here).
Since it's been previously installed, you know it fits. But take a look at it, and check the mounting points for any cracks or excessive wear... or maybe where the previous owner had enlarged the mounting hole to make it fit. Inspect the rest of it for scraping and such things, or anywhere it might have become weak.
Like I said, urethane holds up much better than fiberglass, so if it's urethane, you're not gonna have a lot of these problems. The good thing about fiberglass, though, is that no matter how fucked up it is, it's easily fixable. Just get yourself familiar with fiberglass sheeting/resin and a good fiberglass body filler... learn to use the orbital sander well, too.
But again, Wings West tends to make pretty high quality stuff, so unless the thing has just been through straight hell, then you should be alright purchasing.
Lastly, if it were me... buying a urethane one would be great... just paint it and go. I've never really seen any major problems with urethane kits... but if I were to buy a used fiberglass peice... I'd defintely fix it up before putting it on, no matter what. That means repairing/filling any cracks or breaks, and sanding the entire thing religously...

Good deal. Thanks for the info Clone, and Si? .
It is a urethane kit. I'm going to call him up and seal the deal. I'll let you know how everything works out.

I was saying watch out for how he put it on not you b/c he could of half assed it and done it wrong and it might just cost you more in fixing it in it end.

Gotcha, good point Si? .
I called him. He's got someone looking at it tonight, and if that guy doesn't buy, then I'll be the proud new owner (assuming it's not butchered up).

wait a min, you have to watch out for your own car too, has your car gotten into major accidents? if i was you....i would just quickly jack up the car, take off the bumpers, and just kinda test fit them. its just better to be safe than sorry. you dont want any abnormal gaps or anything.

The WW kit usually will fit on a CR-X pretty easily, since it was a Mugen knock off, and it follows the stock shape and lines as well. I would NOT buy it unless I got a lot of pics, or better yet, saw it in person. If it has been installed already, it will bolt up no problem. The only way an accident would make it not fit right is if you had some frame damage, or the front end is twisted or something. If something on your car right now doesn't line up right (bumper, fender etc.) take them off and see why that is. It could easily be that part alone. Chances of you having a fucked up frame so nothing alines right is pretty slim. Do a carfax if you're that worried.

My car was in 4-5 minor accidents before I got it. I'm thinking of getting it put on a frame straightener or something.

Cool, thanks again guys.
I'm (hopefully) going down to look at it tomorrow.
I've had both the front & rear bumpers off of my car, everything lines up great, and there's no damage. (Lil rust on the rear bumper carrier, but I intend to fix that)
Any damage on the sides of my car are going to be repaired by the body man (who will also be installing the kit), so I'm pretty confident that it will look ok.
I appreciate all the information.

i had bought a crx with a ww kit already installed, ( i bought it for parts) , removed the kit and installed it on my turd. The nice thing is that you can redrill the holes if the kit doesn't fit right to your car.

I love the way your car looks btw hcarcrx. Have any more shots of it?
It looks like the 'all business' rat rods that I love so much. (that's my next project by the way)
Anyway, looks cool man. I like your car.
