Lumpy damn throttle-diagnosis?
Unlike Jadkar and quite a few others, I am a "cookbook" mechanic. I can't diagnose squat most of the time but once I know what to look for I can do alright on a lot of stuff. Here is my problem:
When I first crank up the car it idles fine. After about five minutes I get the annoying 1,000rpm rise and fall in the idle speed. I guess it takes 2 to 3 seconds for it to rise and fall and it does not seem to stop. What should I look to replace? Thanks.

sounds like your engine is "searching" aka trying to find the right idle speed. check for vacuum leaks. spray all the vacuum lines with brake cleaner while the engine is running and when it starts to fight itself, stop. there's your leak. if it's not that it could be an EACV. I doubt it's the FITV.

it could defenately be the fitv. in most cases youll get a cel code for the iacv. and you dont necessarily need a cel to have codes. see if your gettin anything from the ecu.

When this happened to me it was the IACV. I bought a used new one and the problem was gone. Only happened to me once the car was warmed up. I had no codes for the IACV. I cheacked my FITV and for air leaks anywhere but found no problems. If I plugged the holes in the IACV (with the IACV removed) the idling settled.

There are 2 reasons for this.....
1) IACV, like everyone mentioned. Take it off and clean the screen out.
2) The idle air mixture screw is set to allow too much air to bleed through the throttle body. This screw is usually not touched, but sometimes a shop messing around will do more harm then good (some shop in NYC did this to me ) The screw is directly above the throttle body opening and if it hasn't been tampered with it is covered in wax from Honda. This WILL cause the idle to jump up and down.
Basically, the reason is too much air is getting into the fuel mixture and the ECU is searching and trying to trim it out. Unfortunately, the ECU only has a sent amount of adjusting it can do. So it goes bouncing around looking for the happy medium which it never finds.
When messing with this make small adjustments and mark with a black "sharpie" where you originally where

You can also change the PCV valve..my brother his old accord had that problem and we changed it and it stopped.
