My EG's acting up... - Tuner-Junction

here's the story...

i was picking up a christmas present today at one of the shopping malls and i finished doing that at bout 10pm.. after that i decided to go have a couple of drinks with some frens and we normally meet up at this coffee shop before ajorning to the place where we'll sit down and chat around midnight...

now my car has been sitting there for about 2 hours after a 10 min slow cruise from the shopping mall to the coffee place... when we decided the place where we'd go i started the engine and there's this massive rattling sound coming out of my engine bay and i'm like 'wtf?!!'

the moment i heard it i opened my door to hear what was that noise and my car stalled... i restarted the engine again and it sounded like it was frying crabs on a chinese wok...

i tried to drive the thing to the place where we'd have drinks (it's only 5 mins away) to see what was affected.. it sounded like my flywheel brushing against my clutch as i thought my clutch had gone but there were no slipping occuring....

when we got there i opened the engine bay to hear where the noise came from and it's coming from the pulley areas... so i decided to put my car at a frens nearby place tonight and get my mechanic to go fetch it from there (it's really close to my mechanics shop too) in the morning...

will keep u guys updated tomorrow once i find out what's wrong with it..

i dun really want a pricey bill to fix it for christmas and i need to shop for presents.. sigh...

anyone of you guys experience rattling and clacking sounds on ur engine bay b4?

p.s. we had a massive road block on the way back (my friend had to drop me off).. i wonder if my car sensed that

(the height of the car is not street legal not to mention the loud exhaust, cf vented hood and heavy tints

)...

whew! i was having paranoia that the conrod bearings or the crank shaft bearing was shot.. turns out it's the alternator bearing that's shot..

change of alternator.. case closed

haha i read this last night, didnt quite know how to respond til you had some news on it but damn, thats some luck haha, at least it was nothing more serious, that would have scared me too, i hate when my car makes strange noises.

yea man.. it was in the middle of the night and my mechanic was asleep.. no help till morning and i didn't know what to do...

i'm quite lucky that i decided not to drive the thing home and drive it to the mechanics in the morning because a) i managed to not go thru the roadblock and b)my car would have died in the middle of the highway on my way home or on my way there in the morning...

yea i had a close call like that the other week, except i did break down in traffic lol. just some stupid wiring that came undone and the car wouldnt start.

so did you have a spare pulley handy or did you have to order it?

i had to order another one..

and guess what.. my luck cannot be worse.. i just got home and the batt light on the dashboard came on... i checked my apexi auto timer for a voltage reading and it read 11.0v - 11.1v.. my voltage stabiliser reads 12.6v (normally it reads bout 14.9v - 15.0v)... dumb thing is undercharging!

i dunno if it's not charging or sumthing.. so i decided to take it for a spin and get the engine running and the revs up to see if the thing charges... and it's jumping in the region of 10.7v - 11.1v... and moreover i'm getting some burning plastic smells coming out of the car..

so i'm sitting inside my room now at 3am waiting for 9am so that i can drive the thing to my mechanics... i tried to disconnect the batt terminals just in case but i'm really out of luck.. the terminals has been changed to allenkeys and i dun have the tools!!!

i just hope i can start it in the morning and none of my wirings are fried

i can't sleep...

i decided to try and wring the terminals off the batt.. i was lucky coz the -ve terminal was not that tight.. i managed to wring it off.. the only thing that was connected was the voltage stabiliser and it was still attached with a number 10 nut.. so i disconnected that..

i just hope i can start the car to endure a 20 min drive to the mechanics..
f*ck getting reconstructed alternators (they are bout USD30 bucks cheaper).. i'm ordering an original JDM EG6 alternator tomorrow.... it's not worth the headache...

update!

fucking hell.. i found out a brand new alternator from honda made for a JDM B16A is selling at USD250+ wholesale! and even if i wanted to pay USD500 for it, they won't sell it to me because they don't have it here unless i pay shipment and shit which i'll have to wait 3 months...

sigh.. looks like reconstructed ones are the way to go in my case (bout USD40) but i'm not encouraging it.. why u might ask... coz i changed freaking 3 alternators today and the shit thing bout it is leaving the faulty one on made a diod in the wiring fry.. freaking alternator light on my dash is still on and it's annoying me not to mention the burning plastic smell... luckily the 3rd alternator is charging correctly according to the ohm meter, the volt stabiliser reading and the timer... now i gotta go back tomorrow to get the diod replaced..

sigh.. i dun ecven know what time will the diod get sent to the shop... this sucks ass man...

went to the shop today.. turns out the small freakin diod is not in yet..

looks like i'm spending christmas with an annoying batt light on my dash as ornaments... sigh...
