Help

hey all, i'm new to the forum. i've had my 92 hatch for almost a year now, but it didn't run for most of that time. i originally had a d16z6 in it paired with a y8 tranny... i had a catastrophic rod breakage, so that motor is shit now so i now am running a mini me, still with the y8 tranny. i do however have good z6 block that needs almost all new internals. what i want to do with this motor is high compression, all motor. i want to see how fast i can make it without a turbo or a bottle. but being that i've just gotten into tuning, i don't know the good products. i don't want cheap shit, and i don't want shit that's gonna break. i'm not looking at buying everything at once, so i'm not too concerned with cost. i will pay for quality. i'm just looking for recomendations.

thanks.

how fast do you really want to go? I think you might be disapointed with d-series all motor stuff. Also, what head are you going to use? I don't think it's really a 'mini-me' if you're starting with a motor that's already vtec but meh, no big deal.

As far as headers, bisimoto or SMSP are top notch.

the setup i have right now is a d15 (non-vtech) block, with a ported and polished d16z6 head. i have a light weight flywheel, clutchmasters stage 3 clutch, dc headers, cheap-o intake, straight exhaust to the muffler (no cat), and an edelbrock adjustable cam gear. i just got used to the displacement of the 1.6, and i figure i probably lost about 10-15 hp going to the 1.5 block. i want to end up being able to run about a 14 second quarter mile.

What ecu are you running? I assume p28 (stock z6 ecu).

Really there is no single place you should start with something like this. Check out my garage and you can see my setup. It easily has low 15 second potential in a CRX if i can get it to the ground and my goal is actually high 14's.

I don't think the displacement is hurting you that much though.

for rods and pistons...check out Endyn..
For all you bearings go with ACL bearings.
valetrain there is a lot of choices..crower, ferrea, skunk2 etc. I say its up to you..I'd go with either ferrea or skunk2(if on a tight budget)

i personally prefer OEM bearings over ACL.

rods- Tuner Toys are cheaper but you have to do some machine work to make them fit (the piston end is too big). Eagle's are the same thing as them but they have finish machining done after being imported. Those will be a little cheaper than Endyn i'm sure.

pistons- ... not sure. Never really heard anything negative that i can remember offhand.

intake manifold- edelbrock.

header- smsp, bisimoto, hytech, ..RMF maybe.

cam- crower.

thanks for all the suggestions. i'll deffinately keep them in mind. and if anybody thinks of anything else, please, let me know. like i said before, i'm not planning on buying everything at once, so money really isn't an issue... i'll probably buy it piece by piece, but i'd like to have it back in my car by early spring.
