Need advice with intake manifold

Hey,

I'm helping my bro replace the gaskets on his 92 auto dx cvic hatch. We're doing the head, intake manny, and exhaust manny since it all came in a kit. His intake manny has some oily gunk in it where it mates with the head...should we clean this out...if so...how and should we replace the gaskets on it as well???

If it wasn't obvious from my post...I'm a total newb to this. I mentioned that because I'll probably do some stupid things along they way...and I'll be asking what to do . I got the head off and I'll be looking for that carb cleaner. I set the head in plastic bag to try and avoid any contaminants entering it, however when I checked on it some more oil came out and got on the valves. Is this a big problem? How should I clean this without dismantling the head? I wanted to keep everything intact to avoid any extra work since I'm pretty sure the problem is just the head gasket...plus I gotta make time for my CRX.

Clean the oil with gas. Wipe it well. The left over gas will evaporate

Help!

Ok...the engine is back together...we started it up and it was making a clicking noise inside the engine. Would that be valves hitting the pistons? I tried my best to align all the timing marks...but how does one know for sure? I'm at a loss at the moment.

Sounds like it just needs a valve clearence adjustment. It should run fine after that. If not, you fucked it up...
