Downward spiral...
How long (hypothetically speaking, of course :P ) Could i run without an air filter? ...and how far can i advance the timing without causing immediate damage to the engine?.. i have a 94 dx hatch and it's got the d15b7 1o2hp beast in it...and i want more power for UBERcheap until i have finished saving for my h22a!..

well you could run without a filter as long as you want and nothing will happened. However a rock might go through the pipe causing engine damage. Also when i had that same exact motor i advanced the timing on the distributer all the way and it ran a lil better and never causes damage to my motor.

Another free slight power gain is to take off ac belt if you have it and power steering belt.
I read in import tuner some years ago that they gain 2 or 3 hp from this mod.

Hahaha my dx didn't have power steering...so it didnt have a belt for that, and then, last week while changing the water pump, i forgot to re-tighten the tensioner for the a/c and then it fell off, so i cut the belt off....and then....lets see...yeah...that's about it :P

Running w/o a filter just isn't smart, it you want something that will probably flow more and still protect somewhat stick a sock over your piping

If you are putting a h22 in soon then you should be fine running without a filter, not the smartest thing to do, but people do it. I also had my timing advanced as far as the dizzy would let me go for a while and ran 93, it felt a little faster but I would rather run cheap gas in something that runs high 16s anyways

for what little that engine puts out it really ISNT worth it.
i dont get how ppl consider all these crazy ways to get 2-3 extra kW at such risk......just dont do it and save for ur swap
and make sure u do a proper comprehensive swap with all the right parts to support it.

and I believe if you don't reset the ecu the ecu takes the timing back out that you put in by advancing the distributor effectively canceling it out. sorry but even a sock is pretty stupid use a proper air filter.

running straight throttle body will be bit loud.
sounds like a ghost under your hood at nights or somthing. fucker hisses at you
and like kevlar said. not really worth taking the risk.
I'd rather drive stupid then to take risks like that

imo its actually quite pointless and I really don't see why you should feel the need to do it. if you don't want to take everyone and theyre baby's momma anywhere tell them to get they're own damn ride. how much faster you really think losing a back seat and some carpets can really help. From what I recall for every 100lbs you lose a tenth. is a tenth really gonna matter? my brother does the same thing, now I have to buy the whole interior for a vw rabbit, you know how hard that shit is to get in decent condition. even then he either doesn't finish the project or sells it off(making less money b/c there is no interior) in the end what are your true intentions for this car is it really something you want to keeo? do you really want to modify this car?
