to port or not to port... that is my question

so as you know, i just redid my trunk setup.

today, i fiberglassed a bowl type enclousre to fit in the spare tire well. im going to attach that to the plywood floor panel i built and that will be my enclosure. now my question is, should i port the box or attempt to separate the two subs into separate compartments?

what would get me the best sound out of this setup:

completely sealed
completely sealed with subs in two separate sections
ported
ported with two separate sections
no fiberglass bowl at all

i already ordered two ports so i can do this as soon as they come, if i chose to do it.

DONT do one complete sealed encloser. if you blow one sub. then the other one will get damaged as well. it all depends on what type of sound you want. and it all depends on what type of sub you have. we need more info here. are they 12's or 10's or 15's or 8's. do you want a big boomy sound for bass or do you want the subs to sound good so you can still hear your component speakers? do you want less room in your trunk or more room in your trunk? answer all these and i'll answer yours back.

well ive got two xplod 12" subs. im probably replaceing them for two pioneer 12"s with more power and better mid range. i alreadyhave th enclosure (just look for my other thread in this forum and then let me know my options. i want the sound to be versitile.

i love my pink floyd so i gotta get the clarity i used to get with my sealed box. but i also listen to trance and heavy metal, so that thump is also nice for the kick drums/bass. and lastly, i listen to a little hiphop so i liek to crank the bass once in a while especially if im cruising around with my coworkers during lunch break.

just direct me in the best direction for an all round setup using the details i showed in my last thread. ive already made the fiberglass bowl to both protect the subs from the metal below and to jsut dampen the vibrations a little.

sealed will give the most predictable results in this case. i run two 13.5" subs in 3.5 cuft sealed and there is always enough (and too much if i want) punch, but i am able to retain all my SQ (on this note, you'll want to find the volume of the box you are building in order to tailor that to the manufacturer's specs to give you the best possible sound). remember the install can make or break a system.

trimming the fiberglass isnt hard actually.. just get a dremal with a spiral drill bit used to cut material or even a router would work fine.

there is so much to consider when building a proper sub encloser. you have to remember the add the displacement of the sub (DUH). lol i always like to go (if possible) a lil bigger than what the specs of the box is required. keep in mind that fiberglass is at its strongest when its curved. and not strong when its flat. anything else is just pretty straight forward. OH and if you wanted to you can put polyfill/dacron aka pillow stuffing or blanket fluff in the box. this tricks the sub into thinking its in a bigger encloser.
