First expiriences
Well like the title indicates, i'd like to know from those of you who do compete in autox/solo2 what your expiriences have been, and if you remember what was your first time (racing that is) was like for you.
Reason for thread, is just to try and get this thing started off with some useful info for newer car enthusiasts that want to actaully do something instead of be ricers on the street.
I have yet to compete (i work every weekend ) but am still very interested in the concepts of actually doing it. In other words this will make me go if i hear good things .
Thanks in advance guys.

I just auto-x'd today and it was awsome. I never raced before which made me kinda nervous but it turned out the race was still very novice-oriented w/ all the hardcore trailer queens around too.
helpful info: I got to walk the course once or twice before I took my car to the track. There's also some sort of novice-walk where someone leads and explains key things to look for when driving. An "instructor" was also there to go with me on my first drive too. Auto-Xing is all about handeling and control, i saw miata's and fiero's (yes, fiero's) WORK Z06's and other expensive cars. You dont even take it above 2nd gear (atleast on the track i was at). Before we left I stripped the trunk and left the floormats and other loose items at home, inflated front tires to 40psi, borrowed a buddies bike helmet and I was good to go, thats all you need.
my first time was a 74.something. Then i took high 60's the rest of the day but damn "off course" penalties killed me (+3 seconds). The cones can get alittle confusing and the course had some minor changes throughout the day. Control>Speed and thats just something ill have to learn with experience, I cant wait to do it again.

How many runs did you get in all day?
I went as a spectator a few weeks ago and loved it...since then I bought a helmet and I'm trying to scrounge up some scrilla for wheels or a suspension...but I plan on registering this Sunday for June's auto-X can't wait!

I got 5 runs but if I had ran in the 4th heat, I wouldve had 6-8 runs.

That's true i guess but people I talked to at the last one said there are a certain number of spots and they fill up quick...I guess I'll just keep trying and worst comes to worst I'll try just showing up on Sunday

I remember the max number at the philly event was 200 and only 95 registered online.
I'm pretty sure if you arrive early, you'd get a spot.

I'm addicted to autox now haha. Before my first run, I was pretty tense but after I launched my car everything went out the window.
Like mlh908 said, the event was pretty novice-oriented. the staff and autox vets were pretty nice. Whatever you do make sure you go on the novice course walk. The instructors go into detail on what to do at each corner. IAlso it helps to draw the course on paper so that you dont go off course haha.
I got 43 or 44 seconds on my best run. A instructor drove my friend's s14 and he got 41 seconds so i dont think i did too bad haha.

Yeah sounds like you did damn well!
Woohoo!! The page came back up so I waitlisted myself (registration was full) and I got an invite to register tonight so I AM IN!!
And looking at the Entry List for street mod I am going to get royally stomped. I'm debating whether or not to keep the hubcaps on....do they allow it?
I really need to get me some springs and dampers and eventually some sways but I'm psyched to run the car hard one last time before I do so that I can remember how much she rolled
WOOHOOO SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!

i think you have to take off your hubbies before you run. oh yeah you dont have to run in the SM class yet. when you go to the registration desk/table/tent, ask to run in the novice class this way you'll be competing with newcomers like yourself.
here's some tips that the instructors gave me:
-brake hard
-drive smoothly, its all about throttle control!
-"go slow to go fast"
-always look ahead
hope that helps.
good luck and have fun dood!

I didn't see any Novice classes but I'll ask when I get there on Sunday.
Thanks for the tips!
