http://www.scca.com/
best bet is to find a local event and talk to some of the older guys.
they usually are very helpful to the newer guys trying to get in.

Thought so, we all want too.
But alot of the guys that race in parking lots do the track events too.
Either way, just start talking to people at events.
Hi Ben

SCCA is about $75/year, depending on the regional membership you get (this is based on where you live). There are discounts for military (-$35) and if you're under 21 (only $45!) It's not bad at all. And with that you get the magazine, a sticker, and insurance on the track.
The track day itself is where you drop dough. I've seen trackdays on www.redlinetrackevents.com for $120-$150. When I did mine at Willow Springs it was almost $500 ... may have been because there was instruction, and skidpad, and other stuff. It's too steep for me but my Fiance is the awesomest chick in the world and got it for me as a birthday present.
But you may need a tank of race fuel ($85) and you'll eat up some tire too ... maybe $100 worth of a good UHP street tire or you could melt away a full set of R-compounds in one day of racing.
That said, I had an awesome time at the track but it won't be worth it for me to go back until I have more money and more free time. But AutoCross is keeping me more than happy in the meantime. You really can't beat it for $30. And it will only help you on the big track once you get out there.

Ah, that would be a mistake!! Waiting, I mean. You would miss out on the opportunity to compare.
Trust me I run with stock springs and dampers, no sway bars, and I roll like nobody's business (as in sig). But I'm still plenty fast (for me) and having just as much fun (maybe more because I'm always at the limit!)
I recommend you take advantage of your blank canvas (I know your car's not stock, but blanker than it will be with a full suspension) and go have some fun!
For $30 it's a valuable learning experience and a good time.
where are you again? Jersey I think ... Maybe I'll see you at one.

Last night I was IM'ing a buddy with a bone stock 99 civic hatch while I was signing up for my August Solo event at Ripken in Aberdeen, MD
The dude is not even into cars at all. He just likes to drive like a nut. And he's pretty good at it. So I told him about it and he signed up. And I bet he'll do pretty well too!
See dude, sometimes knowing too much keeps you from doing stuff. You know where you want your car to be so youre not signing up until it's there. Just race it now! It will help you appreciate how much you've done already and what you have left to do!
Come to the one in Aberdeen!
