I went to this bmw event and me and a couple of freinds test drove the new turbo 3 series bmw. I have to say the car was alot more then what I expected it to be. The expectations were high and bmw met and surpassed them all. The car they were comparing it with was the g35 coupe auto and these were auto. The car was alot faster then the g35 and when I mean alot faster I mean it. When I drove the g35 it was quick but when I drove the 3 series I was like wtf. The car handled insanely well to. There was nothing to complain about everything was on par. There were a couple of people there that owned m3's and they were saying that the 3 series turbo was felt faster then their m3s.

I think what made the car was the fact that they didnt go with a huge turbo. They ended up going with a twin turbo desighn and both turbos are relatively small so theres not any turbo lag. All the power is on tap. This thing was a pleasure to drive and like all bmws it wasnt something that was just fast this thing stuck like glue around the corners. IMO this is definately the best 3 series bmw ever made. They set out to make something to fill in the gap between the m3 and the 3 series and boy did they do it.

I was also talking to some of the drivers there and they said that this was just the tip of the iceberg and he droped some hints about the new m3

"dont think bmw will just let an ordinary 3 series out perform their m class cars. If you think this was insane wait till the m3 comes out."

torque monster for sure......... but anyone who says the new turbo 3 series is faster than their M3 is smoking the crack pipe

maybe it wasn't faster, but it might have felt faster. you know how cars with a lot down low feel faster than cars with more up top? you just don't hit that upper range driving normally, but you're always in teh low/mid range.

it was a pain in the ass because if you got a little to aggresive it would shut down. I mean its great for normal people but if you drive really aggresive its a pain in the ass. I was going through the track perfectly but at the end when I got to the s curve I got a little to agressive with it but I still was in control and the car shut down a little on me. I was pretty annoyed. I see where it would come into play because on that one I was close to losing it.

it was some of the guys with the m3's who own it. I dont know I cant compare myself because I have never driven one. The were quick though. Macbasq may have had it right some times your perception and the power band of the car comes into play and makes cars feal faster then they really are.
