Short Shifter question.

http://inlinefour.com/budclubracsp1.html

Ok. I am looking to buy the single bend instead of dual band.

I have never had experience with short shifters myself. so couple of questions.

1. What are the differences between single and dual bend? throw distace?
2. Friend of mine is saying short shifter is bad for the tranny, and I completely disagree with him. His argument is that it's too harsh for the tranny and will make the tranny grind soon or later because our transmission isn't made for this. What is your say on this?
3. What short-shifter do you use? how do you like it? write me a quick review.
-Brand
-Length of usage
-Pros & Congs
-Throw distance compared to stock.
-Rating 1~10, 10 being the best bang for the buck.

Thanks!

A short shifter won't damage a tranny, unless installed wrong. (and then its only if its backwards and doesn't allow the car to go fully into gear)
I don't know the difference between single or dual bend. I think its just a matter of prefference.
I use b&m shifter. Rate them 10 outta 10. I use the pro shifter because it comes with all the bushings and has a nylon insert to allow it to rotate easier. Cost is about $150 for them.
I don't know if they make a short shifter for an accord though. What car are you getting it for??

I have the B&M thats straight up and down, it puts the knob in a nice position. My buddy has a Skunk 2 dual bend in his EK and it is very smooth and weighted perfectly. The single bend puts the knob in the same place as the dual bend. The only difference is the DB is the copy of the ITR shifter and the single bend is whats stock in all the other Hondas. Either one will work in the civic, integra, or crx.

I used a Forum short shift adapter in my prelude... I liked it... never had a problem going into gear, the shift was obviously shorter than stock...

but personally, if I had to do over again, I'd get a true short shifter, rather than the adapter.

Eh... and the S2K's stock shift throw is so short to begin with... much shorter than my lude was with the adapter... I might get like a voodoo knob for mine from Rick's S2K accessories... it's just a countersunk knob to shorten the actual height maybe like, 1/2 an inch... who knows.

I have a b18c in my 96 hatch and use a cheap 7 dollar B&M single bend and it works great. Never grind gears and the throw is short but not so short to where your going to be missing gears. Something that made a big difference in feel that I never thought about til I did it is the weight on the shift knob. For the longest time I had a cheap super light aluminum one and then recently switched to a skunk 2 one which was given to me which is heavy, weighs like a quarter pound. The heavier one feels soo much better. It like acts as a counter balance or something making the effort to throw the shift less.
