Ford fends off Imports...
I heard Ford plans to defend against Imports by copying thier design & styling in order to have wider appeal to younger generation. Ford has been studying Honda Prelude's 4th gen & 5th gen cars' bodylines to create some sort of Fusion between the two. Just a rumor ofcourse

They are already copying the prelude with the fusion, the front end looks just like the 5th gen lude.

the only people that are worthy of being cocky in that class of cars are the evo and sti guys. the srt-4 and the cobalt guys just wish they could keep up. we defenately dont need cocky ford people too. its bad enough that everyone who owns a stock mustang gt thinks they have gods gift to the car world.

from what a Ford rep tried to explain to me in layman's terms was:
"Not a baby mustang, but this will need the right baby sitter"

hahha...I can't believe the response this thread got, I just made it last night out of boredom while waiting for my buddy to pick me up. But yea, the front end is 5th gen prelude and rear resembles 4th gen prelude/older accord.

I'd like to comment on what Johnlude85 was saying about the stangs hence my screen name. The Cobalt is slow, I had a guy piss me off one day in a cobalt and he couldnt keep up with my wifes 99 windstar van until 100 mph thats funny. As for the srt-4 i almost bought one but i think you can tell by the pic what i went with instead, Matt talked me into waiting until i could find a wrx. Best desicion i ever made. There arent many cars that can keep up where i live.

SVT has officially dismantled from what it used to be. I doubt that Ford will be coming out with a niche tuner car anytime soon that isn't the GT500. The GT500 is no longer sold exclusively through the 600 previously certified SVT dealers. They are going to be available to all 3900 U.S. Ford dealers when they hit showrooms ~fall 06' but will still carry SVT badges. Ford is in a serious state of "re-structuring" right now and they will not be making a turbo Fusion anymore (they were going to before SVT fell apart). All the "tuner" versions that you see at car shows (in the Ford booth) are mainly testing the waters to see if Ford should introduce a street appearence option in the coming model years.
A Ford version of the Mazdaspeed 6 might be coming but SVT will have nothing to do with the development of it and it will be Mazda so Jap-engineering aplenty. Fusion sales might not be productive enough to warrent all these new models b/c Ford is already introducing a hybrid and awd model within the next year or two. IF they ever make one it will just be a top-shelf model and there will be little to no exclusivity as with SVT. They scrapped the SVT Sport Trac Adrenaline idea completey and the Ford GT supercar will not be made after the current model year due to dwindling sales .
Also, I work at a Ford dealer and the Fusions are selling relatively well, I've driven them and they are a well-made car and pretty quick for what they are (dare i say "honda-esque"). thats just my .02
I'd love to have an SVT turbo version for a daily driver
-Brandon

WRX let alone STI are hard to keep up with period
even when I had my turbo saturn I could only beat a STI from a roll... that was on 8PSI and the STI was stock and I he shifted kinda slow. I had an auto but still it was close
the cobalts are kinda slow but they handle decently from the factory... its just hard to upgrade a supercharger... turbos on the other hand have unlimited possiabilities and that the big mistake that GM made with the ION redline and the Cobalt SS/SC they should have turbo'd them.
