Can I go untuned?
Im wondering if Ill be able to drive my car untuned until I save up the $400 that I was quoted for dyno tuning. Here is my setup:
B18C1 Block
B16 Pistons
New rings, bearings, seals, etc.
Spoon 0.09" Head gasket (1ply)
Crower 63403 Stage 3 Cams
Manley Retainers
Supertech Springs
AEM Adjustable Cam gears
JDM ITR 4-1 Header
Comptech intake and icebox
Carsound Hi flow cat
Apexi N1
Blox Intake manifold
Hondata IM gasket
ACT Stage 1 clutch
Exedy 9.4lb flywheel
Approx 11.8:1 CR
Id like to run it with my OBD2 P72 ECU until i can switch over to my OBD1 P28 w/ Hondata S200. Will I be ok?

you'll get shitty gas mileage and it will run rough.

it will run but i reccomend you only give it as much throttle as it needs. dont try to run it hard or anything just drive it and drive it as lil as possible. I had to go along time with my build before i could afford to tune it. gas milage was shitty and the idle kicked my ass. but you can drive it if you need to get around.

as long as you have turned the motor over with the current cam timing (ie, no interference) then yea, itll be ok to get home, just drive it like a buick.

When I turn it over, Ill know if theres interference? Ill hear the valves hitting?
And if they do hit... does the head need to come back off?

you havent clayed the head or anything yet?
if you crank the motor (like, turn the key and it tries to start) and the valves hit, youll fuck it up, DO NOT try to see if the valves will hit unless you want to rebuild anohter badass motor.

Im not doing the assembly, so i wouldnt know. My builder should check piston/valve clearance before i get it back, no?

yes. Your motor should have been clayed upon assembly. I take it you got the head milled as well?

No, the head wasnt milled. My only mods that raise compression is the B16 pistons and the .09" head gasket.

I talked to my builder and my tuner. My builder has worked with the 63403's before, and is going to set the timing where they usually like to be. He is going to clay the motor and check clearances. I just found out my valves were pitted, so im getting new valves and a 3 angle valve job.
I was concerned about driving the car un tuned, and my tuner told me to bring the ECU by his shop, and after telling him my setup, he would burn me a custom chip with a very conservative setup to get the car to his shop.
