prices on engines? are they feasible?
it all comes down to it, yourself on the left, the eclipse on the right, flag goes down, you fly off the line, shifting into numerous gears, then BANG! your engine blows...time for a new one. but..do you have the money to afford it?....
so when its all said and done, your looking for an engine. Most engine suppliers are pretty reasonable for the price of the engine and the extra parts you might want. but have you ever thought if they're just overpricing they're product? is the type of engine that you really want worth the extra money spent on it?
discuss.

Yes, most engine suppliers are overpricing.
If you think about it...a b series swap can be 2 or 3 grand. And none of them (stock) make over about 180hp.
Now, 3 or 4 years ago (before drifting became HUGE), you could get complete sr20det swaps for less than a grand. You could get rb26 and rb25 entire front clips for less than 3k. Obviously it's not hard to see which was the better deal.
Now though, since everyone wants sr20's and rb swaps, their prices have skyrocketed like hondamotors.
You can still get mitsu motors cheaply though, and the same with toyotas. Once people decide they are gonna swap the 3sgte in every celica they can, i'm sure prices on those will rise also.
As far as being worth the extra money...i guess it all depends on whatcha want.

They are extremely over priced!!!!!!!!! my friend is in Japan right now and has 2 gs-r and 6 si-r's in his shed in the back yard. Most he spent so far is 500.00 for the gs-r. It came with OEM lsd and the 500.00 got it pulled and delivered to his doorstep. He just got me a B16 Swap for 250...automatic though. He put manual B16 cams in it for me and is getting ready to send it off to me. So yeah they are extremely over priced!! Hondas aren't really popular in Japan. I can't wait till the K20's start showing up in the junkyard he goes to.
But just imagine if me friend is getting b16's for 250 what a shop that buys in bulk gets them for!

no joke, look at the k20....that bitch is WAY over priced. But you gotta look at supply vs. demand. The k20 is a very demanded motor and motor companies know that people are willing to spend the 5k+ for the motor. Why lower the price when they are making good money?

The engine is only worth as much as somebody is willing to pay for it.

Are you dead set on a front clip? I really doubt he'll do a clip, but a swap he will and has done.I will make sure to get you a price. Also FF or RWD? specific year?

It all depends on what you want. I personaly prefer to build all my own that way i know what i have, and if something goes wrong i have no one to blame but myself.

i feel ya on this one. ONLY problem is that most companies who buy in bulk bring the engines over on a container. that costs an arm and a leg in the end. We brought a bunch of stuff over from japan on a container. The price of everything over there was cheap....but by the time we paid for the container, the dock fees, the shipping, the taxes on parts and customs crap....we broke even on the sale of everything...it was a huge waste of our time as a small company. If you have someone over there that can handle all that stuff for you its cool...if not then youre kinda stuck.
maybe you should start an import business with your boy over there?
