This is a great resource to find out how engines in general work with great diagrams and flash videos explaining how engines work. Site also has tons of other info on how turbos, tranny, cmashafts, rotory engines, and all kinds of other crap work. Check it out!!

werd, car learning started with my father
i did notice one problem with their engine diagram, the crankshaft goes through the oil in the oil pan. that'd make it frothy and lead to problems pumping lubricant throughout the engine. but n00bs shouldn't worry about that.

well i started racing r/c cars at 12 and was sponsored by15, which i thank my dad for getting me there. racing and wrenching has been in my blood for generations, my grandfather raced ovals ( including dirt daytona ) before nascar was around.

That'y why they put up windage trays, to prevent the oil splashing up on the crank and creating drag.

true, but if you have so much oil in your engine that your crank is dipping in it, you've got bigger problems on your hands.
