Just got a 91 Accord ex. small issue.

I just bought it yesterday. runs smooth, shifts smooth for an auto, clean body, just missing the corner lenses aka turn signals. Burgandy interior clean as well. 1400 for it wasnt bad actually. Its a 4 door EX so it has the sun roof, the sports button on the shifter for the tranny the auto seatbelts, ac (which i had to recharge yesterday and took too full cans of r-134a).

Heres the issue. Im not sure if this is normal or something is wrong but if i gun it it feels like theres a cut off around 5k and it falls flat on its face sometimes it will go pass that if i keep the throttle down but it falls flat on its face almost as if theres a fuel cut off on the car. Don't know what it is really if anybody has seen this before or knows something about it chime in and let me know whats up. Also how do you get the glass mirror off the passenger side rear view mirror?? i wanna take the glass off but not the whole thing so i can replace it cuz its cracked. Help appreciated.

I don't know about the lack of power at 5000RPM, but does it stall or just lose power completely and keeps running? When it loses power does it miss or does it smoothly just pull back?

Also, if my memory serves me correctly the mirror glass just pulls off. It's real difficult to get off but it has like a plactic ball and socket on the back so it needs to be pryed. Once you get it to a point it will just "pop" off. I know there's a risk to breaking the glass, but it's already broken. you may want to double check with someone else but I'm 90% sure.

It feels like the fuel cuts off like the car stops accelerating and falls on its face BUT does not shut off. once the rpms drop back down it accelerates again and if i hold it down it will bog drastically but sometimes it will creep past 5-6k rpm and then start pulling again. Its weird as hell. It almost feels like when you have a vtec motor and the vtec isnt set properly you feel that lost of power and then picks up again but in this case it hits a brick wall at 5k and sometimes it will push through. again it wont shut off though it stays running.

Thanks for the tip on the mirror ill wait for the replacement i ordered to come in and im sure it will come with instructions on how to remove and install.

i've had distributors do similar things, they would just start missing at high rpms not cut out completely but like Lil said he had the same thing as you, so maybe you should look into that, also is there any DTCs?

i dont know if its the dizzy but this thing literally just STOPS at 5k even if its in park and i just rev it. its jut stops there its weird. Right now im trying to fix an idle issue if the car is in park it just shuts off when the rpms go low. it just dies if you start it the rpms fall and shuts off so i have to constantly give it gas to keep it going even while driving slow sometimes it will shut off.

does the car run bad and stall all the time if so its probably a vacuum leak, check the idle and timing (adjust the idle screw to see if that helps), since it doesn't stall when you have your foot on the gas i doubt its the fuel pump or filter unless its boggen

also check the iacv on the back of the tb it could be clogged just clean it with tb cleaner and put back on, if its clogged it can cause the car to idle low even stall and cause the idle to jump

I would definitly do a full tune up unless you know the previous owner did one recently

Yea ive talked to john and he thinks its the iacv also. i just have not had a chance to do it things have been extremely busy lately. Thats the first thing im gonna do and no im gonna assume the previous owner didnt do a thing. the guy i bought it from got it from an auction in either jersey or pa. Another thing im gonna check soon is the timing. For some reason it sounds off. I already did plugs and wires when i did the valve cover gasket since i had oil on the plugs so those are relatively new.

i fixed the idle problem. It was kinda messed up at first cuz i couldnt find the iac valve since everybody kept telling me it was on the back of the tb. Guys it wasnt there. Thats one of the reasons i didnt fix it sooner it just wasnt behind the tb. I had a client of mine show me where it was and its actually in the front of the manifold not on the tb at all. There two of them one near the throttle body and one off to the end of the manifold. Took them both off carb cleaned them and put them back on. Also took the pcv valve off the head that has the hose running from the valve cover to the manifold and had to replace that since it was covered in oil and wouldnt open and shut properly. Since i did that today the car runs nice now i dont have to worry about the damn idle issue.
