Don't try and drop the tank without removing that line! It won't work. The line is one piece and can't be removed from the pick-up assembly. If you cut the line you will have to buy a new pick-assembly. It's your fuel system dude, do it right. The line will come off, you just need patience and the right tools and chemicals. Look at my photo below and you can see how the line is too short and is part of the pick-up.
